Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse VS. The Way of Shadows

Rules:

Each match-up will have its own dedicated thread. Voting is simple. All you have to do is:

1) name your pick
2) tell us why
3) defend your choice to the death if need be. (Poke them with the soft cushions if you have to, just make sure that all the stuffing is in the point.)

You only get one vote but can continue to post on the thread to debate your selection or convince someone to change their mind.

If you want to change your mind please feel free, just make sure your post is clear.

Please keep in mind the newly implemented point system. The rules as stated above consist of two parts; naming and why. If you simply name your choice it will be worth 1 point; if you give the why then it will be worth an additional point. This additional point will be granted at the discretion of Bookspot Central.

Voting for this match will end around 8:00 PM EST on 4/13

The Way of Shadows!

Great book, action packed, awesome pace, never a dull moment. I don't think many could read the first book without wanting to pick up the second one. Great read with deep emotion.

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse.
The only book that shows how truly important beer, bubble-wrap and coffee are to civilization as we know it. With those (and a few guns), everything else is optional.

My vote:Way of Shadows

First book that I read where magic wasn't a powerful theme in it, there weren't elves or dwarves running around. Not that it is a bad thing, I like fantasy with lots of magic and other races other than humans too. It is nice, however to read something different. I was sure I would be drawn in so quickly. Weeks really has some really well drawn characters that you can't help but care for.

Regardless of it the book wins or loses I have new books to add to my "to read" list. I've enjoyed watching the battle, even though I've only been voting since last round. It has been fun :D

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse. Wicked satire with naked women. Naked women are a good idea. I want that tattooed somewhere. Not on me, but maybe on a naked woman.

And it's 100% elf-free!

GO-GO GIRLS OF THE APOCALYPSE all the way. High adventure, lots of laughs, and more of a rush than a whole pot of coffee. I can see me re-reading this one again soon.

The winner must be and will be Go-Go Girls!
Come on, seriously, naked dancing girls, home brewed hooch, and post-destruction free market America, can you really ask for anything more in a book?

GO GO GIRLS. A book that made me excited about post-apocalyptic stuff again.

Someone in the last round wanted examples of the Go-Go Girls’ social/political commentary. Here’s a quick one…

By creating a world where the supreme economic force is a chain of go-go bars, Mr. Gischler addresses the darker side of capitalism where workers become slaves just to earn a few moments of distraction from the drudgery of their lives. To generate electricity, they toil away on stationary bikes, never getting anywhere, so others (the rich) can enjoy the fruits of their labor. (Sound familiar?)

Oh yeah, and there’s plenty of babes, booze, and gunplay.

If there was any doubt, my vote goes to Go-Go Girls.

I vote for Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse.

Quick synopsis of the reasons I've voted for GGGOTA so far (in no particular order).

1. Apocalypse. Go-Go Girls. Guns. Rotgut whiskey.

2. Catchy title. One of those you pull off the shelf to check out.

3. The book delivers on more levels than just being a fun testosterone fueled romp of a book. Satire. Social commentary. Quick paste job from a previous round (very minor spoiler):

Joey Armageddon's Sassy A Go-Go offers instant gratification (for a price). If I suddenly found myself in that world and saw the center of social commerce and economics was a strip club, I might not be that surprised. I also find it telling that the one edifice that had a large library and used the knowledge to better themselves had reverted to extreme isolationism and was led by a cross-dressing despot who engaged in genital self-mutilation.

4. Sure we're voting for books here but Victor Gischler deserves a vote as much as his book does. The man is just as witty and insightful in person. He even taught me to appreciate poetry.

5. Said it once but it bears repeating. Go-Go Girls = cool. Guns = cool. Go-Go Girls with guns = some otherworldly ubercool.

6. Need a new reason? I read the book and I liked it. :) And really, isn't that the most base and best reason of all?

THE WAY OF SHADOWS!!!!!!!!!

by far one of the best fantasy novels i have ever read!! no book has made me feel so many emotions in one hit... it is an absolute rollercoaster of highs and lows, will have you laughing and weeping, crying out and waking the house at 4am, sitting on the edge of your seat (or bunk bed) in suspense and sighing with relief... a brilliantly structured and very well-written novel... kudos to BRENT WEEKS!!!!!!!!

My Vote is for: The Way of Shadows

This book was by far the best book i have ever read, it was the 1st book i read that was based on contracted kills, aprentices, underground organizations, the fighting styles, different method's of how to make a kill and it's originality on magic is amazing. :smt00185

I am a chic who loves GO- GO Girls! It rules! The protagonist is honest and likable, and all the booze and naked women and guns is how the world he inhabits is, and it makes it such a good read. It is such a departure from everyday life- that is what makes it such the winner! I have heard rumors about a sequel- but it would only ruin something that was done right the first time. Rock on, Gischler!
