The Edge of Reason VS. Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse

Rules:

Each match-up will have its own dedicated thread. Voting is simple. All you have to do is:

1) name your pick
2) tell us why
3) defend your choice to the death if need be. (Poke them with the soft cushions if you have to, just make sure that all the stuffing is in the point.)

You only get one vote but can continue to post on the thread to debate your selection or convince someone to change their mind.

If you want to change your mind please feel free, just make sure your post is clear.

Please keep in mind the newly implemented point system. The rules as stated above consist of two parts; naming and why. If you simply name your choice it will be worth 1 point; if you give the why then it will be worth an additional point. This additional point will be granted at the discretion of Bookspot Central.

Voting for this match will end around 8:00 PM EST on 3/25.

GO-GO GIRLS OF THE APOCALYPSE gets my vote.

I haven't read THE EDGE OF REASON, but the excerpt I read at Amazon didn't really do anything for me. GGGOTA, on the other hand, was a book I couldn't put down. Just my $.02.

I vote for The Edge of Reason.

GGGOTA has a great title (it's even fun when abbreviated), but lately I've been in the mood for books that have something important to say. Not that go-go girls aren't important, but Edge of Reason made me think.

You mean like a far reaching social satire like GGGOTA is.

I'll stick with Go-Go Girls again here. And for those that haven't read it, don't be fooled by the title - it's a really intelligent social satire with a lot of laughs. And go-go girls.

Gotta stick with Go-Go Girls.

The exert from The Edge of Reason didn't do it for me either. Victor's book isn't just an adventure novel, but has a lot to say about our world and it's priorities.

Interesting! Thanks for the recommendation; I'll have to give it a second look. But since I haven't read it (yet!) I'm going to stick with Edge of Reason, which I have read.

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse.

I said this once but.... "How freakin' cool of a title is that?!" If you lined up a hundred (hell, a thousand) books I had never read and I had to pick one based solely on the title, I would without a doubt pick "Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse". But it's chewy goodness doesn't end there. It is chock full of satiric wit, social observation and nuggets of sarcasm. But wait! there's more. The title delivers. There really are go-go girls and the Apocalypse in it. All the go-go girls, liquor and guns a man living in a post-Apocalyptic world could want. As an added bonus, it was written by a fiery-headed wild-eyed man of questionable taste and dubious morality. (I normally wouldn't give him such glowing compliments but he can be a bit intimidating so I want to cover my bases and say nice things about him.)

Edge of Reason.

Four words: Jesus in a Dumpster.

And if it's Apocalypse you're after (and who isn't?) try an epic clash of Science and Extradimensional Evil Magic on for size.

It was the melted, reconstructed stained glass window that did it for me.

My vote is for the Edge of Reason, one of the most well written books of its kind to come out last year. Both books are social satire, I suppose, but the Edge of Reason has more edginess, IMHO.

Edge of Reason
The other might have a great title (though "Edge of Reason" is no slacker) and be satirical and all, but I'm going for the straight evil-vs.-good-where-each-isn't-what-you-expect story.

I've read both, both were good. Go-Go still gets the vote. Fun and fast paced, not a single waste word, sentence, paragraph, page. . .yeah, you get the idea.

Edge of Reason.

It's smart and addresses issues that most people won't discuss in polite company. It would drive Stephen Colbert over the edge.
