Englebrecht Again VS. Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse

Rules:

Each match-up will have its own dedicated thread. Voting is simple. All you have to do is:

1) name your pick
2) tell us why
3) defend your choice to the death if need be. (Poke them with the soft cushions if you have to, just make sure that all the stuffing is in the point.)

You only get one vote but can continue to post on the thread to debate your selection or convince someone to change their mind.

If you want to change your mind please feel free, just make sure your post is clear.

Please keep in mind the newly implemented point system. The rules as stated above consist of two parts; naming and why. If you simply name your choice it will be worth 1 point; if you give the why then it will be worth an additional point. This additional point will be granted at the discretion of Bookspot Central.

Voting for this match will end around 8:00 PM EST on 3/18. Please look for the next round of voting tomorrow, 3/20.

I'm voting for Engelbrecht Again.
It features some of the most maddeningly imaginative wordplay I've ever encountered. The book is also full of special tricks. At one point a hand comes out of the story and walks down the margin to point out what disaster is coming next, so the main characters can avoid it. That's just one trick among many many. The novel is a very original piece of work and the author is very underrated.

Must vote Gischler. Must vote Gischler.
This message is brought to you by the Victor Gischler swamp zombie society.
(But, seriously, Go-Go girls is a satiric gem, melding the post-apocolyptic with american suburban free market attitudes. It is a taunt, funny, fast paced read on par with the best of Vonnegut.)

Because it combines absurd comedy with dark themes, so you never know whether to laugh or shudder, and also because this novel doesn't have one plot but many plots that all come together at the end, I'm voting for:
Engelbrecht Again!

I am not casting a vote since I didn't read any of these books, but I definitely have to read "Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse", because many voted it last round.

Gischler's Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse. First of all, how can you go wrong with a title like that, and second, people will still be reading his work a hundred years from now. As Keith Rawson said, it is a satiric gem. Great writing and a fun read.

My vote goes to Engelbrecht Again. It's not just one gem of satire but a whole treasure vault of them!

I'm voting solely on the basis of my desire to read more Rhys Hughes, so Englebrecht Again.

Englebrecht Again.

Hughes is a genus. And that's not a typo - a single species is incapable of writing as much fiction as he does.

I vote for Engelbrecht Again! because it is a "novel" that works on several levels: fantasy, satire, absurdist humor. It is a very literate work of fantasy.

Believe me when I say that I am all for dwarf boxing, surrealist or otherwise, but still, make mine one for Go Go, please.

I'm voting for Gischler, Go-Go Girls. As I wrote when I first read the novel, "This is a novel that makes On Chesil Beach seem like an embarrassing waste of your time. Sorry, Ian.

I recently described Go-Go Girls to a friend as 'a smart book disguised as a trashy book.' But I’ve decided that’s not quite right. The trash isn’t a disguise. Peel back that first layer of trash and there’s more trash, but soggier and covered with old coffee grounds. It’s a lowdown sex and violence sleaze-fest in the best pulp tradition. It’s a book that imagines the only force for civilization in the wasteland of the future is the go-go club. (Not the 'titty bar'! An important distinction, as the book will show you.) But I stand by my claim that it is a very smart book—one whose keen insights into the human condition and the organization of society can be easy to miss, considering the velocity at which the novel rushes past and the bruising force with which some of its best scenes pound you."
