Goblin War by Jim C Hines VS. Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link

Rules:

Each match-up will have its own dedicated thread. Voting is simple. All you have to do is:

1) name your pick
2) tell us why
3) defend your choice to the death if need be. (Poke them with the soft cushions if you have to, just make sure that all the stuffing is in the point.)

You only get one vote but can continue to post on the thread to debate your selection or convince someone to change their mind.

If you want to change your mind please feel free, just make sure your post is clear.

Please keep in mind the newly implemented point system. The rules as stated above consist of two parts; naming and why. If you simply name your choice it will be worth 1 point; if you give the why then it will be worth an additional point. This additional point will be granted at the discretion of Bookspot Central.

Voting for this match will end around 8:00 PM EST on 3/16. Please look for the next round of voting tomorrow, 3/17.

I vote GOBLIN WAR, Jim Hines. I have read both authors (although I don't think I've read that particular one by Link) and I must say I lean towards the Hines style!!!! Goblin War was an excellent read.

Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link contains the greatest short story ever written, Magic for Beginners, and so it is necessary that everyone vote for it, myself included.

I can't quite bring myself to vote for my own book. However, I can promise to make goofy campaign posters for every round the goblins survive!

Whether that's incentive to vote for or against my book is another issue entirely ;-)

I vote for Jim's book. Because he told me to. And because Goblins need all the help they can get.

Goblin War - no contest

I'm a guy, so let's face it: goblin guts and gore is a lot more appealing than a bunch of monsters dressed up in lipstick and tutus.

Oooh, nice campaign poster! Even though Jim didn't vote, I think you can count Jig's poster as a vote!!!

GO GOBLINS!!!!!

1) Huge vote for Jim C Hines and the Goblin War
2) Because all of his books are amazing and this is a unique twist rather than the same old thing.
3) Needs no defending. The book speaks for itself.

How about: werewolves, a surfer serving as sole intermediary between humanity and extraterrestrials, a goddess who forgets she's a goddess and makes ghosts into fashion accessories for a living, or a guy who has to steal library books to save the life of a TV character?

Goblin Wars because Jig is a great character. He doesn't want to be a hero but is forced to do so and his trying to avoid doing so is usually quite funny.
