Bloodheir by Brian Ruckley VS. Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse by Victor Gischler

Rules:

Each match-up will have its own dedicated thread. Voting is simple. All you have to do is:

1) name your pick
2) tell us why
3) defend your choice to the death if need be. (Poke them with the soft cushions if you have to, just make sure that all the stuffing is in the point.)

You only get one vote but can continue to post on the thread to debate your selection or convince someone to change their mind.

If you want to change your mind please feel free, just make sure your post is clear.

Please keep in mind the newly implemented point system. The rules as stated above consist of two parts; naming and why. If you simply name your choice it will be worth 1 point; if you give the why then it will be worth an additional point. This additional point will be granted at the discretion of Bookspot Central.

Voting for this match will end around 8:00 PM EST on 3/16. Please look for the next round of voting tomorrow, 3/17.

Bloodheir
While I have not read either of these, I have flipped through both at the local bookstore and I actually bought both of Brian's books and left the Go-Go girls on the shelf.

Go-Go Girls is more then slightly, certifiably, insane.

You write an Edgar nominated debut novel, followed by three more crime novels then in the words of Wee-Bey say "fuck it" and write a post-apocalyptic novel you get my vote. Plus it's a wild rilde of an entertaining book.

BLOODHEIR
Because it follows the steps set in "Winterbirth" in a pleasant and catching way and because the story grows further on. Because the atmosphere is cold and grim. Because I loved the battle scenes. And because I liked even more the characters Kanin, Wain and Mordyn Jerain.

GO-GO GIRLS OF THE APOCALYPSE

It's totally off the wall and extraordinarily entertaining. Think THE WIZARD OF OZ, with gunfights, car chases, and strippers. I read it on a cross-country flight, and I had a hard time not laughing out loud. :smt00214

Bloodheir never made a single step that you couldn't see coming from Winterbirth.

By default - Go-Go!

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse.

I mean c'mon. The title alone is enough for a win. It's got go-go girls and the Apocalypse. It has subtle literary references throughout its meandering sweaty journey, like rancid Easter eggs to be found and exclaimed over. Oh, and lots of guns. Scads of guns. And liquor. And go-go girls. Did I mention the go-go girls? Go-go girls with guns. How freakin' cool is that? When I read a book, I always have a voice in the back of my head (my internal director, if you will) assimilating and dissecting information. My director for “Go-Go Girls” was Quentin Tarantino on acid. As an added bonus, I have met the author of "Go-go girls" I barely escaped with my life and a passing grade. Some people might take that as an opportunity to vote against the person responsible. But not me. He is an insane, wild-eyed fireplug of a man who breaks out into maniacal laughter with little or no provocation, putting those around him on edge. Those are qualities I try to foster within myself, thus earning him my respect and my vote.

When I was at Bouchercon this past year there was only one author I was scared to meet. And that author was Victor Gischler.

Just sayin'

I woke up in the middle of the night unable to get back to sleep, so I picked up Go-Go Girls and started reading. When I did feel drowsy enough to go back to sleep, I had a dream I was "in the Apocalypse."

Attribute my vote to sleep depravity or damn crazy story-telling, whatever, I vote for Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse by Victor Gischler
