The Social Network trailer

Sony has released the official trailer for director David Fincher’s next big movie. I’ve never almost fallen asleep in a movie trailer before, but The Social Network just about did the trick. It’s easy to empathize with those of you who dig the story behind the story. Who doesn’t like a daring expose on real-life events that are actually interesting? But this one is gearing up to be a misfire on Fincher’s part reminiscent of Michael Mann’s snoozefest The Insider. Likewise, it’s probably destined for some Oscar love at next year’s Academy Awards.

The Social Network tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg), co-founder of Facebook, who developed the site with the aid of Eduardo Severin (Andrew Garfield) during his sophomore year at Harvard. Also starring Justin Timberlake as Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who also became the founding president of the 500 million-strong social networking application.

Actually I thought it was one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a long while. The music choice is creative, the trailer doesn’t have any IN YOUR FACE LOUD LOUD LOUD shots, and the color palette looks incredible. It also looks incredibly dark for something a lot of people are dismissing simply as “the facebook movie”.

How about specifics? Why didn’t you like the trailer? What in the trailer itself makes you believe it will be a misfire? The combination of Sorkin + Fincher seems a good enough reason to give this thing a chance, don’t you?

Err, I meant *I think* the combination of Sorkin + Fincher seems a good enough reason to give this thing a chance, don’t you?

I agree with Sean… having worked at a major hollywood creative advertising agency for years, watching trailers as WIP’s day in and out, having been fortunate enough to observe the creation of trailers for some of the best (and worst) movies that have come out during that time, this is one of the best I’ve seen in awhile.

But then again, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

I don’t know on what planet “The Insider” was a boring movie, but apparently you’re living on it.

Here on Earth, this trailer looks pretty great.

My first rxn after seeing trailer was, “If they had an Oscar for trailers, this one should win.”

Refreshing to see real creativity in a trailer, plus one that doesn’t reveal 97.3% of the plot. Aric, I’m pretty sure you and I wouldn’t agree on much artistically.

I thought this was an amazing trailer purely because the song is a rendition of ‘creep’ by radiohead… CHOIR VERSION
i love this version of creep because it gives an epic feeling of the whole thing
just cuz of that i will go see the movie. it definitely looks interesting enough so why not?

This trailer literally gives me goosebumps. Sorkin and Fincher are going to kill it together. Saying that you almost fell asleep during this is just silly. What’s brilliant about it is that it reveals literally nothing about the plot, in complete contrast to every other trailer out there. Whoever is marketing this is a super-genius. Oh, The Insider was fantastic by the way. Stop penning poorly written rhetoric on the internet. Everything these two men touch turns to gold. Oh, you suck by the way.
