Charlie Huston Interview – part 1 video

Books, Interviews | Keith Rawson | January 19, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Writing my introduction to my interview with Charlie Huston is an easy one, because all I really need to is quote the massive amount of praise that’s been heaped upon the Southern Californian novelist over the last six years:

“Bloody Amazing. Charlie Huston reminds me of all my favorite writers—Peter Dexter, Robert Stone, Crumley. Surprising, funny, compassionate, edge-of-seat stuff, and beautifully written. If there is such a thing as compassionate noir, Huston has found it. A true marvel.”
–Ken Bruen

“Rock and rolls from the first page. This is one mean, cold, slit eyed mother of a book and Charlie Huston is the real deal.”
–Peter Straub

“Huston may be the crime writer of the decade.”
–Sarah Weinman, Confessions of an idiosyncratic mind

“One of the most remarkable prose stylists to emerge from the noir tradition in this century.”
–Stephen King

Rest assured that none of these blurbs are lip service. Huston’s novels are bold, page turning, genre benders. And on January 12th at the Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ, I sat down with Huston to discuss his career, future projects, and his most recent novel, Sleepless.
