Chris Pine is Jack Ryan

I have to admit that I thought the Pine cast was still one of many possibilities, but the producer of the “Jack Ryan” vehicle, Mace Neufeld, stated rather matter-of-factly (during a press conference for Invictus) that Pine will be the next Jack Ryan and gave up more details on a role that we’ve seen in The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears .
“The Jack Ryan movies have never been action films. They’re kind of ‘thinking man’s thrillers’.”
Chris Pine (Kirk in the Abram’s Star Trek film) will assume the shoes filled previously by Alec Baldwin Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck, though this film will be an original screenplay and not be based off a novel by Tom Clancy. It will also not be an origin story, as some thought due to Pine’s relative youth (and perhaps lack of a novel). No director has yet been named to helm the project.
I actually just saw the new Trek movie and just thought it did the impossible (for me)–making the original Trek interesting and watchable. It’s definitely among the best couple of Trek films (and The original films are much more watchable than the show for me) I’ve seen.
Paramount is looking at a 2011 release.
