Website Information | Elena Nola | December 20, 2009 at 5:18 pm
The holidays are upon us! ’ Tis the season for overeating, making merry, and renewing the bonds you share with family and friends, whatever holiday you’re celebrating…and perhaps not so much the season for new TV or interweb columns. A bit of a slow week for us, but full of good tidings. If you were too busy finding the perfect White Elephant gift for your office party or stomping through the river bottoms for 13 hours on a Christmas Bird Count to check in every day, be not afraid! I’ve got your cheat sheet, my weekly run-down of our original content so that you can sleep the peaceful sleep that comes when you know you didn’t miss something awesome.
Book Reviews
The Nerd of Noir raves about the reissue of oldie but goodie Flight to Darkness by Gil Brewer
Wild Cards: Suicide Kings, the third book in the Committee triad of the series edited by George R.R. Martin, was a satisfying end to the trilogy and perhaps the most tightly written book of the group for Aaron Teiser
The Nerd of Noir takes his turn at Slammer by Allan Guthrie, and comes away just as bruised and suckerpunched as Brian from the power of this story
The Nerd of Noir also brings us a late night, double feature, Victor Gischler show as he offers his thoughts on both Vampire a Go Go and The Deputy
At the Movies
Eli’s Plot Twist takes on James Cameron’s Avatar, which is an enjoyable acid trip through a blue and green jungle that lives up to Cameron’s hype–and the obvious plotline revealed by the trailers
The Week in Television
PLMII gives us his thoughts on Dexter’s Season 4 finale, “The Getaway”
Gerald So thought The Big Bang Theory could have made a more believable use of Leonard’s mom in “The Maternal Congruence”
CSI: Miami got its first return appearance of Eric since he left the full-time cast in “Delko for the Defense”, which Scott Parker thought was a great mid-season break
Gerald So also watched both Christmas episodes of NCIS, “Faith” for the original series, and “Brimstone” for NCIS: Los Angeles

Matt Cibula unwinds another 47 Miles of Barbed Wire this week as he starts running down his picks for the best albums of the decade (2000-2009). Check out 101-90 and 89-80 now, and keep checking this week for more installments!
