Movies, News | Jay Tomio | November 13, 2009 at 2:55 am

A movie mentioned solely because Amy Adams is in it, and I don’t care who you are or where you are from–you liked Enchanted. Leap Year also includes Adam Scott, Bill Nighy and Kaitlin Olson. It’ set to hit theaters on January 8th, and MSN debuted a trailer yesterday.

Film Synopsis:

Adams plays a young woman who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day. When weather forces her to veer off course, she enlists a cynical Irish innkeeper (Goode) to join her on a cross-country trip.

I love Amy Adams, but I can’t imagine this being much more than a formula rom-com. Oh well, I hope she makes a pile of money on it and goes back to picking more interesting parts in more interesting movies. (And what I wouldn’t give to be wrong, and have this be good. But I’m not betting on it.)

AS an Irishman I find this type of film deeply offensive. This movie seems as if it were set in a fictional Ireland of the 1930’s rather than modern Ireland, a country that is among the world’s richest and most advanced industrial societies. If you want to see a real Irish romantic comedy check out “About Adam”, at least it is an accurate portrait of real Ireland.
