Hannah fills in as a guest judge on “America’s Top Talent”; Robby makes Jackson clean the attic as punishment for receiving a traffic ticket.
The Hannah Montana show usually teaches us a lesson along with the entertainment that it brings to the table, and tonight was no different. Oliver is really doing well on the American Idol spoof, America’s Top Talent, and he gets caught up in all the attention he is getting from the female body at his school. By caught up, what I really mean is that he is ignoring his girlfriend, Lilly, and treating her just like another one of his new-found fans. Not a cool move from the boyfriend. Miley and Lilly think about maybe just having Hannah vote Oliver off the show, as she is one of the guest judges, but level heads do prevail. What was great about this piece of the story is the absolute dead-on spoof of American Idol. The character played by John Henton, Andy, is a duplicate of Randy Jackson, and he calls everyone “dawg” to the point of going overboard. Charles Shaughnessy plays Bryon, who is a great Simon duplicate. He has the accent and the perceived mean attitude going for him, but even he loves Oliver’s singing. Well played by the Disney Channel to write up such a funny spoof. Kara Dioguardi plays herself, getting her place back on the judging table as Jackson howls out some song for the show dressed up like Axel Rose, I think.
Ah, the Jackson storyline was no slouch, either. Once Jackson receives a traffic ticket, his punishment is most cruel: he has to clean the attic. This is no ordinary attic, this is like some overgrown Tennessee museum with bats, bear heads, and all sorts of crazy things. Jackson gets a bit reflective on the juggling career that never was. After Robby comes up to give Jackson a little more punishment for receiving another ticket, he comes to find out he may have more in common with his son than he thought. I found the attic scenes quite funny and a good secondary storyline for the show. The nose hair clipper scenes, well they hit home.
Another thing of note is that I like how they do not try to overdo it on this show. We had enough to carry the story, so we have some of the supporting cast, like the character of Rico, sitting this one out. It is always weird to see someone other than Rico or Jackson manning the beach stand, though. On Hannah Montana the writing can actually carry the show, but it does not need to with the cast putting in fine work. Billy Ray Cyrus really does play a great father character on the show, props to him for really keeping it authentic.

I love Jackson and Robbie Ray – they are the best part of the show. I do admit to a smallish crush on Billy Ray Cyrus, though, so I may be a bit biased. But Jackson – well, the boy has no shame. The nose clippers were a nice touch.
