Anthony Hopkins cast in Thor

anthony_hopkinsLast time we talked Marvel’s Thor it was to tell you that Stellan Skarsgard had been cast earlier this month. marvel has now announced that playing Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) father will be no less than Anthony Hopkins.

I guess I don’t have to tell anyone – comic fan or not – that Thor’s father is Odin. Comic fans can run and go get Journey into Mystery #86, which wasn’t cheap to begin with high grade. Hopkins’ name was one of three (DeNiro and Jude law being the others) that were floated out there for potential roles in the film (which I have to admit, I thought was rubbish). Variety is reporting this as a matter of fact (while others use “in negotiations”)–pick which you prefer! Previously, BSC reported the casting additions of Jaimie Alexander and Colm Feore, Natalie Portman (as Jane Foster) and Tom Hiddleston (as Loki).

You have to like Hopkins in a supporting role in a Marvel movie!

Thor has a release date of May 20, 2011.
