Review – True Blood: New World in My View (2.10)
Review, Television | PLMII | August 26, 2009 at 3:14 pm
Sookie, Bill and Jason return to a Bon Temps turned upside down by Maryann. Lured to Merlotte’s by Arlene, Sam and Andy find cold comfort in their refuge from a group of bloodthirsty revelers. Bill discovers that traditional vampire techniques don’t work on Maryann; Hoyt and Jessica try to keep a lid on Maxine’s madness; and Sookie tries to push through the darkness consuming Tara. With all hell breaking loose, Jason takes the bull by the horns to rescue Sam, at least for the moment.
I really enjoyed the humor this episode offered up in the form of Jason and Andy’s heroic antics, which reminded me of movies like Army of Darkness” and “Shaun of the Dead”. The B-movie quality of this episode was really fun and brought a smile to my face more than once. Sam’s plight kept me on the edge of my seat and Tara’s madness allowed me to really get a grasp of the dysfunctional but loving relationship she shares with her mother and Lafayette. I was really glad to see Sookie and the others get back to Bon Temps. I enjoyed their surprised reactions upon seeing their hometown in disarray, and it was something I had been anticipating for sometime. The writers did a fantastic job with the encounter between Sookie, Bill and Maryann. I really got a good laugh when Bill was later vomiting up Maryann’s blood and adamantly refusing to take Sookie’s suggestion of asking Eric for help in dealing with Bon Temps’ newest demonic resident. I was quite excited when Bill went to see the local Vampire Queen but just as he arrived and she spoke to him, the credits rolled. I felt utterly robbed.
For me this was definitely a supporting cast driven episode, it was the loony and possessed townsfolk that often made me wonder, What are these fools going to do next? I really think this episode showed me just how much I have fallen in love with the cast of this ground breaking show. Everyone feels like an old friend and each new episode gives me a chance to catch up on the crazy things going on in their strange lives. I have not read the books upon which this show is based, but I have heard there are some stark differences. This means that I will get to enjoy the magic of these characters in another form.
There are only two episodes left for season two and I am expecting them to be amazing and I hope we see Maryann get what she deserves. I have not disliked a television character so much since Jaime Murray’s despicable and sensuous portrayal of Lila from Dexter - season two. I really want someone to stop Maryann. She has been annoying me all season and I think its was time she was written gone or “dead”. The war over Bon Temps is underway and I am putting my money on Sookie and her friends to win the day.
So is it Sunday yet?

I too love this show. For some reason i like it like I liked BLADE and Underworld. Here is my issue though; How can Vampires who are ultimately evil in nature fight the ultimate evil in the person of Maryann? Altough I love the different plots, this is one that will drive the analytical person mad:) I also love that we discovered a new found power in Sookie:):) This shit just keeps getting better- I LOVE IT..Wish I could have had a role in the show
You ask a great question, I guess we will have to wait and see.
