John Hughes 01It’s being reported that John Hughes, the writer/director of the movies of my youth like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, has passed away today from a heart attack in NYC. He was 59 years old.

Maybe I’m just getting older, but these types of posts are getting too frequent. Those films listed above are just his all time classics and this is more than a lightly slap for us all.

    Sigh.

Just a couple of weeks ago I watched Ferris Buehler with my son. We both loved it, me for at least the tenth time, my son for the first. Hughes leaves behind such a great body of work.

    Very sad news.

Ferris Bueller actually was on here last week. One of those movies that I watch whenever it comes on, no matter what.

Maybe now we’ll get a look at his secret uncut version of the Breakfast Club. He had the only copy

  4. Wow this is a sad moment, Sixteen candles and Weird Science are classics. His films and MTV were what made the 80’s fun for someone like me to growing up in.
I was just posting on my blog about him. He will be missed.
