Ryan Reynolds is Green Lantern
Comic Books, Movies, News | Jay Tomio | July 11, 2009 at 1:00 amThis all seemed to happen in like two day. First, it was leaked by AICN that Justin Timberlake was in consideration for the role (which at first seems dreadful, but to be honest, the guy isn’t terrible in a couple of films). Then it was dropped that there were three contenders, adding Bradley Cooper and Ryan Reynolds to the mix. Today I’m reading that Jared Leto was under consideration.

THR says the choice is Reynolds, which gives him a foot in each of the two major comic publisher’s film plans as Reynolds is set to start in the upcoming Deadpool movie. From a comic book perspective, these are two of the hottest characters at their present company in my mind, as both books have been excellent over the last year (in Green Lantern’s case, several years now). I’ve always likeed Reynolds, and I think he’s’ a good face to show the mainstream public, in terms of representing one of the major DC properties–and oddly enough the guy seems ideal for two very different characters. Hell, I thought he’d be a great Flash.
Green Lantern is being directed by Martin Campbell, and Casino Royale and Mask of Zoro suggests this guy can get into origins of iconic characters.
This is good news for comic book fans if this deals gets done.
