Double Indemnity – Raymond Chandler cameo caught on video

This year we are 50 years post-Raymond Chandler, the mystery/crime novelist icon responsible for books like the The Big Sleep and The Long Goodbye. I was reading an article about him in the Guardian today that talks about his relative reclusive nature, but now a new cameo appearance by him has been found in a film.

The article states:

He gave very few interviews of any description (apart from, famously, a radio chat with fellow novelist Ian Fleming, in London for the BBC in 1958). There is no television footage or film of him at all, apart from a snippet from a home movie.

It points to discoveries by two sources (here and here–the second is in French) of this cameo appearance in the film Double Indemnity. Neither, however, show the film, which I’ve put below. The part you are looking for starts at the 3:38 mark, and you’ll see Chandler sitting on the bench reading.
