First look at ‘V’ remake – clips and images

We get our first look of the remake of the 80’s television show V today as the first two clips and a load of images have hit the web today. I used to watch this show back in the day (one character made my Top 20 in a Jan-Ken-Pon entry), and this show is definitely not ignoring the recent SF/F viewing audience with this cast.

There is a lot of what I’d call yumminess here with Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl on Smallville), Morena Baccarin (Firefly), and Elizabeth Mitchell (who has been terrific in Lost) and Morris Chestnut (Boyz N the Hood represent!). ABC is definitely dealing with known commodities, and it will be interesting to see the quality of direction and if we will be able to buy into so many new roles for rather fresh yet familiar faces.

I watched the first one over and over – It was totally cheesy but such fun! I will have to watch just to see what changes they make to update it.

I have to admit, I hated the first one. H.A.T.E.D.

All my friends loved it, and as we were in high school and amped up on 2-liter bottles of Coke and Dungeons & Dragons most of the time, my dislike was viewed as something of a heresy. One friend said to me, “How can you not like a show with great writing, great acting, and great directing?” to which I responded, “If V had even one of those things, maybe I WOULD like it.” At which point we starting brawling.

    Yeah, we were idiots.

As it happens, I saw bits of V again a few years ago on DVD, and, honestly, I still didn’t like it, but I am way past brawling over a TV show. And one thing I did think the original had was an intriguing premise, if lousy execution. So as I look at this powerful cast and reflect upon the quality series science fiction has achieved since the 80’s, I find myself rather looking forward to it.

I used to watch it when I was younger, but honestly even though I know the basic premise, I don’t remember a damn thing in terms of specifics about the series. So for me, it will be a new experience to either love, hate or be indifferent about.
