Damon’s Weekly Noise – Oct 26 2008 – Halloween Edition
Column | Damon Cap | October 26, 2008 at 7:18 pm
This is my special Halloween edition, I know everyone is excited. I even took some time to photoshop a new column picture for the occasion. Without any more delay (as I have to sample the Halloween candy before it goes out, I am an official candy taster), the first special edition of Damon’s Weekly Noise.
Best Halloween Costume: I was a Tie Fighter Pilot, not this crap costumes you can buy in the store, we made the costume, ala http://www.501stlegion.org. Ok, the costume was not that good, but I remember it took myself and my parents weeks. We used an old motorcycle helmet and there was sewing involved. So I ask you all, what was your best non-store bought costume? Pictures for extra credit.
What my kids are dressing up as, and what I’m dressing up as: This year my children (2 and 4) are dressing up as “The Hulk” and “The Red Power Ranger”. My wife is the one that usually does the honors and takes the kids out to my parents neighborhood, my aunts neighborhood, and her parents neighborhood. I think last year she was a fairy, I am going to guess this time she is going to use some scrubs from work and play nurse or doctor. I stay at home and hand out the candy, which we usually run out of and I have to hand out money. If I do go out though with the kids at all, it is going to be as a sheet ghost, good ole Charlie Brown style.
Favorite Halloween candy: Easter is usually my favorite candy holiday, but if I have to pick something for Halloween, I am going to say Butterfingers. I am not a candy corn fan, which seems to be the official Halloween candy.
Best Television Show of the week: This week it was the episode of Entourage that aired on October 19th. I am upset I had to see Dom again this season, but it was quick at least. Ari though has such an interesting decision to make that is really brought the show back to the standard I was used to. Who thinks Ari could just carry this show himself? The best scenes this year all revolve around his storyline. I am excited to watch tonight, which means that last week did its job. The Office though was a close second with the auction of the fake tickets and Michael and Holly hooking up. Jim is not that guy.
Worst Show of the week: How my DVR even continues to record this I don’t know, but Kath and Kim again. Why do I subject myself to this torture? We have decided that after the mall hairdresser prom convention we were done. You hopefully will not see this again next week as we have removed it from the recording schedule. Remember this is the worst show I watched, not just the worst show on t.v., I torture myself just for this column.
70s/80s/90s media that has followed me this week: It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Yeah sue me it was made in 1966, but since I only started watching it in the 70s it makes my list. Peanuts cartoons are some of my favorites and this one does not disappoint either. I grew up reading the books full of Charlie Brown comics and dare I say, Peanuts has shaped some of my morals. Thank you Charles Schulz.
Best Guest Appearance of the week: Ben Savage in Chuck where he was not even credited on IMBD. Nicole Richie was also in this episode, I haven’t yet decided even after watching it if she was good or bad. My secret talent is being able to figure out what other shows people are on. It is usually done by voice, so call Ripley’s.
Show I am missing the most this week: Jericho has been on my mind this week. I think it has a lot to do with the elections. I loved this show and out of all the shows off the air, this one hurt me the most.
Random media thought of the week: Does watching a movie more then once change your perception? Let us say I have only watched a movie one time and really enjoyed it. I wonder though, would it hold up as well after the second viewing? Are some movies meant to be watched just one time?
Best Cover from review copy of the week: I am going with All the Windwracked Stars by Elizabeth Bear cover by Jean-Sebastian Rossbach. Girl in cool looking armor – Check, Sword and magical Creature – Check, Some sort of crazy looking fortress – Check. Yup thats my pick of the week. In case you have not figured it out, I am a sucker for girls, magic, and weapons.
